Announcement: Indian Atheists Meets in Delhi and Chennai

Nirmukta is proud to announce Indian Atheists Meetups in New Delhi and Chennai this January. The last few months of 2010 were exciting as we held successful meets in Bangalore, Pune and Mumbai. It is now time to take the movement to other cities.

Delhi Atheists Meet

Date and Time: 23 January, 2011 3pm – 6pm

Location: Amphitheatre, Central Park, Connaught place, New Delhi – 110001

Google Maps:

RSVP for the event on our Facebook Event Page for the Delhi Meet.

How to get there: Any Delhite would know this, but just in case you are coming from out of town or from the suburbs, you can reach here by taking any metro line to the Rajiv Chowk metro station. One of the exits is in the Central Park itself. Alternatively, if you are travelling by car/bike, there will be parking available in the Palika Bazaar Parking and around the different commercial blocks.

We will meet at the amphitheatre in Central Park, CP, and then if need be, walk to a coffee house close by to continue the discussions. Those interested in beer or Caventer’s milkshakes after the meet may proceed there.

Points of discussion on the meetup day:

1. Why when and how did you realise that god is imaginary?

2. Have you come out in the open about it with your family and friends?

3. How should the Indian freethinker movement proceed?

4. How often should the meetups happen?

Of course, there is no set pattern for this first meeting, and the meetup is intended to be a social gathering. So the discussion can take any direction.

If you wish to be contacted by SMS, please leave your phone number below and we will get in touch with you on the said day.

Finally, if you know someone who might be interested in this meetup, do spread the word!

About Indian Atheists:

Indian Atheists was conceived of by the members of Nirmukta, an organization promoting Science and Freethought in India. At Nirmukta we believe that as long as organized superstition pollutes our culture there will be a need for strident Atheist activism. Indian Atheists was born as the Atheist activism arm of Nirmukta.

The members of Nirmukta take on all forms of irrational thinking, examine claims about reality by practicing scientific skepticism, and celebrate a life-affirming naturalistic worldview. But the fact that religion is so pervasive in our culture requires that Atheist activism be fully supported by Freethinkers.

The objective of Indian Atheists is to help build bridges between Atheists in India, offering support to those who wish to come out and create an alternative community both online and off.
